Unleash your full potential and join the 2023 Virtual Hapalua Festival, featuring a 5k, 10k and the iconic Hapalua - Hawaii's Half Marathon!


From April 16 to May 15, 2023, you can embark on an unforgettable journey and conquer the events at your own pace. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, this virtual festival offers you the flexibility to complete one event, or rise to the challenge and become a Big Kukini by finishing all three.

In the footsteps of the King's Runner

The Hapalua is the largest half marathon in Hawaii, organized by the Honolulu Marathon Association.


Hapalua means "half" in the Hawaiian language. The in-person race starts in Waikiki on April 16, but you can also complete the 2023 Hapalua anywhere in the world.

STEPS TO ENTER

1. Sign up to one, two or all three virtual race distances. You'll earn a separate shirt and finishers medal for each distance you complete.
2. You'll get access to your own Account page where you will keep track of your time & distance and upload your race evidence.
3. Anytime from April 16 - May 15, 2023, complete the races in one go or break up the distance over multiple days.
4. As you walk or run, record your time and distance with any running app, your phone or simply your watch. We have a guide to help you with this.
5. Login to your Account page and upload a screenshot or photo of your running app as evidence of the distance covered and the time it took.
6. When you have finished, submit the final results on your Account page and our verification team will check and approve your time.
7. Your results will be listed on the results page and you can download your Finisher Certificate.
8. Finishers medals and race shirts will be mailed out to all finishers in May.

Thank you for holding this virtually. It's been one of the things I had resigned to never be able to do b/c of such awful knees over the years. You guys are making this possible. For someone who will never be able to run walk shuffle for more than 6 miles at a time, I really appreciate this structure. I will be able to cross this off my bucket list.

I just wanted to thank you for putting on an amazing virtual event this month. I completed the Half Marathon single day event from my treadmill but honestly felt like I was part of something large and wonderful.

I also just got my virtual certificate of completion of my first marathon and am thrilled and feel so accomplished! My mom who passed a few years ago ran 6 Honolulu marathons and I used to think one day I’ll do one, like mom. But as the years passed and kids came the dream slipped away. But this year with the multi-day option I actually was able to make one of my life long dreams come true!! I completed a marathon!! Mom would be proud.

Thanks again for making it possible and so easy to do, track, submit and complete. All my evidence was verified and accepted in less than a day! You guys really are awesome. Mahalo for making this possible!!

This has been a wonderful event and I'm amazed how quickly you were able to turn this Marathon into a virtual which enabled Theresa in Florida and my sister and her husband in Kansas to complete their first Marathon ~ very exciting for all of us!

Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy a bit of Hawaii through the virtual Hapalua races. The Doble family and friends, aged 10 to 79 years, joined together to feel like we were in Hawaii for the moment and hope to be able to visit again as soon as travel permits. The event was well organised and maybe you should continue the virtual events even when you are able to run the actual event. A Big Mahalo to all the volunteers and organisers.

RUN THE OFFICIAL COURSE

The Hapalua is the largest half marathon in Hawaii and we have replicated the exact course route so that all Virtual Runners can experience everything this fantastic course has to offer. For the 5k and 10k, we have created a shortened version on the same route so everyone can explore Diamond Head and more!!

 

Along the way, and as you complete more of the route, unique content will be unlocked so that you can learn, see and hear the sights and sounds of Hawaii.

Ho’omaka 5k Route

The Ho’omaka 5k is the first race of the Hapalua festival series. Ho’omaka means “to begin” in the Hawaiian language.

 

The virtual course will take you along scenic points in Honolulu and finishing in Kapiolani Park. 

Hapalua Iki Route

Hapalua Iki, or the “Little” Hapalua is a 10km/6.2mile course specially made for the Virtual Festival. The course will take you through Waikiki with perks at different points of interest!

 

The finish will be in Kapiolani Park.
 

The Hapalua Route

The Hapalua starts by the beach in Waikiki. Run down beautiful Kalakaua Avenue with it’s hotels and high end stores.  

 

Along Ala Moana, downtown and  then back through Waikiki and up and around the iconic Diamond Head crater and you finish in Kapiolani Park.
